Ashley Hutton | LM, CPM
I am a home birth midwife licensed in the state of Michigan as well as a certified professional midwife. Unlike many other midwives, I began my path into the birthing world all at once. I had been in “alternative” healthcare for about 16 years working in chiropractic and holistic wellness and going to school while volunteering as a physical therapist assistant with a focus on neurological disorders and injuries. I loved the people I served, and being able to be a part of their progress as they gained better quality of life was wonderful. But something was missing. I wanted to be a part of something that would expand across generations in my community and in the lives of the families I cared for. I wanted something that had more room for patient autonomy. Something more free from hospital policies that are not actually evidence-based.
When I found midwifery, it was like finding a soul mate in a career! I became a DONA certified doula and began my apprenticeship as a student midwife at the same time. I’m a choosey girl, so I continued this for a year before I decided on a school (Midwives College of Utah). I have had the honor of learning and getting my hands-on skills from some of the best midwives in the state. I have attended over 150 births so far and plan to become a preceptor soon.
The relationship I share with my clients is a beautiful, shared experience of art, science, wisdom, surrender, support, and strength. Having a baby is transformative, and when you’re in the right hands, empowering.
I believe midwifery care should be family-focused, individualized and respectful. It’s crucial to feel supported and an active part of the decision-making process. I strive to provide safe, client-centered care to all genders, cultures, religious beliefs, and family structures.
I am honored to walk alongside each pregnant person, to provide counseling and support, and share in the childbearing cycle from pre-conception through postpartum and beyond. This is my passion!
